Polyurethane foam packaging

Polyurethane packaging is a great, cost-effective way to protect your customers' orders during shipping.

Polyurethane (PU) packaging foam is suitable for shipping lower-value or higher-volume products. Less durable and rigid than Polyethylene (PE) foams, PU foam packaging is typically used in less demanding applications. However, polyurethane foam provides good cushioning performance, is lightweight, and is low-cost.

At Suttons Performance Packaging, we are experts in a wide range of foam packaging materials, including Polyurethane. However, our expertise with Stratocell and Plastazote allows us to recommend a foam material suited to your specific product or application. Our in-house designers and conversion equipment also guarantee innovative, optimised, cost-effective solutions to any requirement.

FAQs

Polyurethane foam is a low-cost packaging foam suitable for lining corrugated boxes, creating pads or sheets for your fulfilment teams to add to packs, with intricate shapes die-cut into the surfaces, or even as profiled egg crate foam.

There is a range of material densities and grades, making polyurethane packing foam an adaptable and versatile option for many applications. Anti-static and flame-retardant grades are also available.

Polyurethane foam for packaging does not absorb water or moisture because of its closed-cell structure. Because the cells are not interlinked, water cannot penetrate the material’s surface.

The process of reacting di‐isocyanates and polyols is used to manufacture polyurethane foams. Both of the products used in this process are derived from crude oil. However, Polyols may also be made of natural oils from renewable sources.
