Foam end caps are a type of packaging placed over a product’s edges. The product, with end caps on each end, is then placed into an outer shipping box. The end caps cushion the product during transit and keep it away from the interior surfaces of the outer box, preventing transit damage.

Packing process

How it works

Foam end caps provide an effective, single-trip option for protecting your products in transit. The process for using foam end caps is as follows:

Assemble foam end cap (please note this may not be required, depending on the design). Full instructions vary by specific design.

Place foam end caps on either end of the product, ensuring all six sides are in contact with the foam.

Place the product with end caps attached into a pre-assembled corrugated box.

Seal the box with tape or closures and ship.

It is possible to create custom foam end caps to suit virtually any product. Options include pre-assembled end caps or hinged designs that fold around the product during packing (these can also be stored flat, saving storage space). There is also a range of material grades and densities to suit specific applications.

Sourcing your foam end caps and corrugated packaging together significantly improves compatibility and fit compared with sourcing them separately. This is in addition to being typically more cost-effective and reducing admin.

Whilst it can be difficult for end users to recycle foam end caps, using them instead of other insert options can minimise your business’s environmental impact by enabling smaller pack sizes, less material use, and lighter shipping weight.
