If your business ships or stores specialist electronics or items that are sensitive to ESD (electrostatic discharge), anti-static foam is vital.
Anti-static foam protects electronics and similar items from physical and static damage. In addition to cushioning against shock, impact, and vibration, anti-static foam safely dissipates static charges. The most commonly used anti-static foam is open-cell Polyurethane foam, dyed pink during manufacture.
At Suttons Performance Packaging, our designers have extensive knowledge of the requirements for successful anti-static foam packaging. We convert various ESD packaging foam materials in-house, including specialist grades of Stratocell and Plastazote. Ultimately, your business can benefit from cost-effective packaging that provides the optimal balance of both physical and static protection.
By using anti-static foam at your business, you can expect:

Anti-static foam works by allowing static charges to dissipate slowly. The foam dissipates charges from neighbouring components, the product itself, and even from staff during picking, packing, and shipping processes. By dissipating any charges, the content within is protected. Pink anti-static foam typically has a resistance value of 10^6-10^9.
Anti-static foam is commonly dyed pink during manufacture. The colour is simply to help end users quickly identify whether a foam is anti-static or a regular grade (so they can ensure they use the most suitable material).
Conductive foams differ from anti-static foams in that they provide lower surface resistance. As a result, the material conducts static charges from any source to the ground or other objects to avoid damage to the contents (i.e. your electronic components). Conductive foam has a resistance value of 10^3-10^5.
You can source a range of stock or bespoke ESD packaging that complements any anti-static foam your business uses. Most commonly, specially coated corrugated material that creates a Faraday cage effect to channel ESD around the outside of the pack, protecting the contents. This material is used extensively in the Corstat range of ESD-safe packaging, bespoke ESD cardboard boxes, and anti-static foam shippers.

Our specific knowledge of ESD packaging requirements, alongside our design and manufacturing capabilities, complements a range of additional benefits.
