Cardboard box inserts

Cardboard box inserts are a cost-effective, environmentally friendly way to improve protection, packing times and usability of your packaging.

Cardboard box inserts are dividers or fittings placed inside outer shipping boxes. They help prevent damage by securing products during transit and handling. They also help with packing/unpacking, particularly when shipping multiple items in the same pack. Cardboard inserts for packaging are cost-effective for single-trip applications and easy to recycle.

At Suttons Performance Packaging, we can design, manufacture, and supply custom packaging inserts tailored to your products, processes, and any existing packaging you use. We also allow you to source both outer pack and box inserts together – in low and high volumes –  improving compatibility and performance.

FAQs

Cardboard box inserts are a type of packaging used within an outer shipping box. Taking the form of dividers, die-cut inserts, or layer pads, they can allow the shipping of multiple items within a single pack, support packing and unpacking, and help protect contents during transit.

Using packaging inserts can be very effective at minimising and even eliminating damage to items during shipping. By bracing the product, the insert prevents movement during handling, so that parts do not collide with the internal walls of the outer pack or with other products or parts you are shipping. Some inserts can also create an airspace around the product, further protecting it from impact.

Cardboard box inserts are fully recyclable (and often manufactured using recycled materials). End users can place them into kerbside recycling collections alongside the outer corrugated packaging.

There are several alternatives to cardboard box inserts. These include the Sealed Air suspension and retention packaging, which uses a plastic film to brace products during transport. For fragile and/or expensive parts or products, foam inserts for boxes, such as end caps or foam lining, can provide increased cushioning protection.
